We make a living...by what we get. We make a life...by what we give.

The Advance Corporate Training Ltd. Spirit Foundation is committed to helping individuals and organizations develop the skills, habits and attitudes needed to build positive and productive lives and communities. We focus on initiatives in locations where we conduct business.

Since 1997, ACT has endowed an employee-run Spirit Foundation as part of it's commitment to community and social development in it's core communities. The Foundation is supported by a portion of our annual profits and through the contributed services of many of our staff, contractors and affiliates, who are equally committed to making a difference in the lives of others.

We have been raising funds and working within our community for many years-the development of the ACT Spirit Foundation formalizes our commitment to sharing our core values.

Currently the Foundation has a five point strategic focus:

•  Leadership Development
•  Community Development
•  Empowerment for Women
•  Global Citizenship and Peacebuilding
•  Lifelong Learning

Current projects 2005/2006

New West Principle Centered Community Forums
The Advance Corporate Training Ltd. Spirit Foundation is partners with the New Westminster Principle Centered Community Society to bring a series of leadership forums to New Westminster. These sessions help individuals develop and build a solid foundation for personal and professional success by exploring universal principles for effective living.

"In today's fast-paced world - information is power. And sometimes, that information is not equitably available to all segments of the community. We hope these community forums can help bring the "powerful principles of personal change used by so many organizations and leaders today into the hands and minds of everyone who wants it."
-Janet Dean
ACT President

Empowerment for Women

"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world."
-- Nelson Mandela

Educating girls in particular has been shown to be highly effective in reducing poverty and improving life for individuals, families, and communities.

Current projects 2005/2006

International Spring Bud Program
This is a grass roots program designed to help young women in China, Indonesia and India actively participate in education opportunities and develop the skills necessary for personal and professional success. Our primary role is in raising funds, working to eliminate systemic discrimination and providing Canadian role models and mentors. This program is in its early stages and would be a great place to make your mark. We focus on initiatives for both girls (fostering better opportunities in rural areas) and young professional women looking for Canadian mentors/support.

Global Citizenship and Peacebuilding

Current projects 2005/2006

The Peace-Book Initiative
The Act Spirit Foundation works to raise awareness and education around peace-in the world, in the community, in our homes and in our hearts- through the purchasing and distribution of The Peace Book by Louise Diamond. A contribution of only $100 sends 20 peace books out to your contact list or through our distribution network to schools, hospitals, politicians etc.
YMCA Peacebuilding Programs
We subsidize merginalized youth attendance at YMCA peace programs and services. We volunteer as needed.

Lifelong Learning

At ACT Ltd., we walk in the footsteps of our ancestors and proudly provide the following awards.

Shirley Dean Memorial Lifelong Learning Award
This award is for any adult participating in a continuing education situation towards building a better future for themselves and/or their family and is made each year in March.

Aurora Campus Spirit of Learning Award
We recognize that learning as an adult is tough and is made tougher by all the other commitments we maintain - including work, family and community. In our working lives the pressure to maintain balance in these areas becomes an even greater challenge. This award honours the spirit of adult learners and their ability to persevere in their acquisition of new skills, ability and attitudes. This annual award is provided through our education partner Aurora College and is for students and graduates from the Inuvik campus.

If you have a project you think the ACT Spirit Foundation may be interested in, please contact us. We are most interested in supporting programs and initiatives that directly benefit the development of independence and capacity building through education-traditional and non-traditional-and life long learning. In particular, our goal is to recognize and support the organizations and individuals that mirror the values we have built our company on over the last 14 years.
